Suffolk County Criminal Lawyer : Shawn Kassman, Esq P.C
Suffolk County Criminal Lawyer
I am a Suffolk county criminal lawyer with more than 16 years experience. I appear regularly in all of the courts throughout Suffolk county. I have handled many misdemeanors, felonies and DWI cases. If you are charged with a crime in Suffolk county it is imperative that you hire competent counsel that regularly appears in the courts.
Depending on the nature of the charges often depends on how the case is initially dealt with in court. The court will consider somebody’s prior criminal record, the ROR score as well as strength of thbe peoples case.. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the charges an individual can simply receive a desk appearance ticket which basically means they are given a ticket to appear in court to be arraigned in front of a judge. Or is in more serious matters the individual would be arrested and brought to the court for an arraignment. If an individual is given a desk appearance ticket that usually is a good sign that they will be a plea-bargain offer in most cases to a noncriminal offense (depends on the individual’s previous record as well).
If you are arrested and brought to court for an arraignment the court will consider a number of things in determining whether someone is going to have to post bail. Some of the things the court considers is the person’s previous criminal record and there ROR score as well as the charges. If an individual is charged with the crime and brought to arraignment they will be processed at the court they will be asked questions and the court will verify the individual’s information to come up with a score for arraignment purposes. The higher the score the more likely that an individual will be released on their own recognizance and scheduled for a future court date. This is called the arraignment. Essentially this is where the court will gain jurisdiction over the individual for the pending charges, and the person is presented with the charges. Often times an individual with a low score will usually have to post some bail to ensure that they will return to court to address the charges. If an individual cannot post bail the court will adjourn the matter for a very short date.
I have been practicing for over 16 years and my office has been in the same location. We regularly appear in court and have a good relationship with the judges and prosecutors. As well as the staff at the court.
I will do my best to answer all of your questions and provide you with a strategy on addressing the charges. I try to answer all questions by appointments or by email and I’m available to speak with my clients.
